Super excited to bring you the next spot in my cheap eats series: Cheap Eats Isla Mujeres!
This little gem of an island off the northern coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula has seriously carved out a space in my head. The water is insanely blue, the beaches are world class, and I have some great memories of the evenings out at local bars.
And yeah, it’s Mexico — so naturally I’m still daydreaming about the food. If you’re planning a trip to the island (or already there), here are a bunch of spots to eat well without blowing your budget.

Cheap Eats Isla Mujeres: What Prices to Expect
Tacos at street food stalls usually start around 25 pesos each. At sit down loncherías, most plates fall in the 100–120 peso range. For casual restaurants, you can expect meals to land somewhere between 100–200 pesos, depending on the dish.
Where to Grab Groceries and Snacks
When I’m traveling somewhere where eating out is generally affordable, I usually don’t bother cooking, unless I am there for an extended stay. But I love stopping into the local grocery stores just to see what they have, and they’re a great way to grab quick breakfasts, snacks, and drinks. Eating from the grocery store is a big way to keep costs down while traveling, so don’t overlook it.
Super Aki (north end of the island) is a large supermarket with big selection.
Chedraui (central part of the island) is another solid larger supermarket option.
You’ll also find smaller convenience stores scattered all over town.
